Hitler wasn't a christian. He often staged photos of himself such as this to try and gain the people's sympathies. I read his diary Mein Kampf and he makes alot of evolutionary statements. I theorize he was an evolutionist... Although i don't believe just because you are a christian that makes you a good person so i believe the above picture is accurate

1. If you think evolution is true that does not mean you can not be a Christian
2. There is no such thing as an evolutionist, there never has been
3. If you take the things in Mein Kampf as true, how do you ignore the many statements about his belief in god?
4. Yes you can go down the line of him just pretending to be a theist in order to win the favour of the people, but why should we suppose this? There is no evidence to suggest this and there is a lot of evidence to the contrary. He talked about being a Theist in private letters to friends but never mentioned the idea of being a atheist.
hitler was a catholic. the catholic churc has supported and actively participated in religious persecution for centuries. including the holocaust. I am a christian, not all christians are good people.

I think you'll find that the vast majority of the really, really fucking terrible people on this planet are religious. Hitler. Bin Laden. 98% of the Popes throughout history. Tom Cruise. Nero. Sargon. The list goes on. Coincidence? Yeah, probably. Of course, truly believing that you'll live forever does do pretty weird things to the human brain.

Hitler wasn't religious. He just wasn't. I have read a lot of Mein Kampf and while he does call himself a Christian, very little of what he did actually attests to this. Mein Kampf is racist populism, and religion is the opiate of the masses. If he said the truth, that he didn't really believe in any non-race based and liked to experiment with the occult, he would never have become Chancellor. Also, EvilGod, Hitler never practiced after he left home, and before he left home he wasn't really anti semitic. Here's where Hitler's antisemtism came from. He saw the Jews as a race, as many Jews look at themselves. A racial group that happens to have a common faith. When he went to Vienna to try and study art he saw a melting pot of languages and races, unlike anything he'd seen in the little village he grew up in. He say the Jews, the Roma people, and many others, working at shitting jobs and, in his eyes, just fucking over the Austrian people. He saw the Germans as the opposite of this. It was all about race, and that is how he divided groups we may not commonly divide as races today. When Germany lost World War I, Hitler blamed the lessr races, as he would think of them. Also, he saw the Jews as the lowest, because the had no homeland, but, to Hitler, it looked like they controlled everyone else's. That was how he came to think like he did, not because of his non-devout Catholicism. Most of the religion he claimed to espouse was for political appeasement only.
also, being a theist doesn't preclude being a Christian or having a set of predetermined believes. i have no doubt hitler believed in God, but he was not, and probably never really was a devout christian.And yes, he would occasionally claim that religion caused his antisemitism, but he would more often claim the race issue and strengthening the german blood. behind closed doors was a very different man than his public persona may show.most of you clearly know very little about this topic, and are simply arguing theology by way of whether or not Adolf Hitler was a Christian, or if he believed in God, or if he used it to make decisions. Who cares? God exists or it doesn't, that simple. Alex, is right except for what he said about evolution, considering the only other scientific theory with more evidence is gravity, you'd have to be unbelievably ignorant to pass the theory of evolution off as if it has no credibility.

I haven't read much of these comments, but Hitler based a lot of his views off of Nietzsche and Darwin, who were probably both influenced by social theorists like Thomas Malthus. He may have identified himself as a Christian, but I think this would be only a mere contradiction to say that he truly was a Christian.

Strange - as far as I recall, in "Mein Kampf" Hitler referred at least a couple of times to the "Divine Creator" and the only one time he used the term "evolution" was when he referred to political evolution. That makes him a creationist by any reasonable standards, regardless of what his attitude was towards other christian dogmas.

Those who actually study history know this. Hitler blamed all the troubles he had in his early life on this. This caused him to renounce the faith and was a large driving force in his decision to start the Nazi political party and later incite the Holocaust.
