No he's right. Mandarin's not the only dialect. Besides, alot of Mandarin is in simplified and NOT traditional characters.
Umm...okay. I'm from Taiwan. We speak Mandarin. We read in Traditional characters. So...what's your problem?
On the mainland, I know they use simplified, which I can still read but is a little harder and is quite different.
Mandarin is the most recognized of the Chinese dialects, but there are more, including Cantonese, Shanghainese, and, yes, Taiwanese, although few people in Taiwan even speak it. It's kind of a hokey, cutetsy kind of thing when someone says something in Taiwanese.
My language is not cutsy. If I chose to not speak mandarin is all my choice. Taiwanese has more beautiful then mandarin. That my opinion but we love it. So we dont have to speak a most use dialect if we dont want to.
